16 Blocks

October 4, 2006

I’d read that 16 Blocks wasn’t very good, but between Richard Donner, David Morse, Bruce Willis and Mos Def, all of whose work I enjoy, and the fact that it was a high-concept urban chase picture, I gave it a shot. But there’s not much to report. It’s interesting to me that Bruce Willis is old enough to play a part like his, but there’s not much more to the movie than that. Otherwise it’s just a bunch of the same old suspense tricks and a lot of wasted opportunities. With such a great, simple set-up, it’s a shame to see such a vaporous movie come out of it.

And, man, is that one lousy, painfully re-shot ending. Is that a test audience I smell?
